The Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) has formally filed a complaint charging the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of breaching the state’s Covid-19 protocols in the way it held a public meeting in the city recently.
Two days ago, HITO had written to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills seeking an answer as to whether the BJP had requested permission from her office for a public meeting held in Laban on July 31 on the occasion of the visit of party general secretary Arun Singh. In her reply, the DC, Isawanda Laloo, said that permission had been granted according to protocol.
However, HITO pointed out in a new letter to Laloo today that there were far more than the permitted 20 attendees at the meeting that day, with the pressure group claiming that video footage shows far more, with eyewitnesses estimating at least 100 people being present.
“In this regard, HITO would like to forthwith file a formal complaint with your esteemed office seeking immediate cognisance of this serious matter by taking stringent legal action against the violators/sponsors of the said meetings as per prescribed law of the land,” the letter, signed by the organisation’s president Donbok Dkhar, said.
