Acting swiftly after local residents of Mendal under Bajengdoba police station in North Garo Hills district informed on the murder of a 27 year old, police arrested one person for his alleged role in the murder.
The incident took place yesterday. One Sengkubirth Ch Marak was arrested last night at around 9:30 pm from near Thapa Darenchi in the same district.
As per reports, one Daniel Marak, was found murdered in his ‘Nokpante’ (bachelor house), a little away from his mother’s residence. Marak bore multiple injuries on the neck with his neck literally being severed from his body.
Police rushed to the spot where an inquest was held before the body was sent to Mendipathar for a post mortem. Investigation into the murder had begun yesterday.
Following the murder, police were on the lookout for the murderer and were finally able to locate the suspect near the village of Bolpuma under Thapa Darengchi. Meanwhile police recovered the motorcycle used in the murder from the suspect along with a phone.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime saying he murdered Daniel due to a personal vendetta against him.
Apparently the weapon used in the murder (a Dao) was recovered by the police as well.
“A case has been registered and we have arrested Sengkubirth. He confessed to the murder and said he killed the victim while he was sleeping using a ‘dao’ (machete). He was apparently working alone. The murder was committed yesterday morning,” said superintendent of police, NGH, Abraham T Sangma.
