An oil tanker driver had a fortunate escape after the truck he was in overturned at Mawtnum village along National Highway 6 in Ri-Bhoi today. The driver escaped without injury.
The Assam-registered tanker was proceeding towards Shillong from Guwahati with its consignment of fuel. The accident occurred after the driver, one Dhrubo Jyoti Borah, had to swerve to avoid hitting another vehicle approaching it.
Members of the public swarmed the spot to collect the leaking fuel, which would have put them in grave danger had the fuel caught fire and which was also a violation of Covid-19 protocols. However, the public were dispersed on the arrival of police.
