Heartbroken that one of its promising youth lost his battle with COVID-19 only because there was no oxygen to help him through, a local oxygen manufacturer in Mizoram sent about 10 small oxygen cylinders to Delhi as a gesture of solidarity with their tribe members trapped in the horrible situation in Delhi, where acute scarcity of O2 has led/is leading to many deaths.
The local manufacturer, FK Kapsanga was helped in this effort by Rajya Sabha MP, K. Vanlalvena.
Zothantluanga, the young man whose tragic experience shocked the state, met this tragic death in Delhi on April 28 even as he was taken around the medical centres, all of which had no O2 supply.
“The cylinders were donated by Kapsanga along with the carriage charges. It is for the use of our people who may be in dire need. We sent it with the approval of our state government,” K. Vanlalvena told the Highland Post.
Kapsanga’s cylinders are being ferried from Aizawl to Mizoram House in Delhi in an ambulance that brought home the body of another member of the tribe, Lalhlunpuii, a resident of Kanhmun village of Mizoram, who died on April 27 in Delhi where she was working. It is expected to reach on Monday.
COVID-19 is taking a terrible toll. But the lack of basic medical oxygen for patients in the national capital is an unprecedented national nightmare playing out with no end in sight.
Kapsanga, a local business man has also promised to donate oxygen to the Zoram Medical College hospital, the main COVID-19 care centre in the state, local sources said.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Government of Mizoram has decided to turn one of its two state houses in Delhi into a Corona Care Centre for its people who need it.
