The East Khasi Hills district administration has so far detected 26 returnees who lied to authorities by giving wrong phone numbers and fake addresses.
The returnees have been forwarded to police for legal action. It may be noted that returnees have recorded the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the State.
Speaking to media persons here today, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo informed that several returnees working in several central government offices and private offices as well are not following the entry testing and quarantine protocols.
“We want to reiterate the entry testing and quarantine applies to everyone,” she said.
The Deputy Commissioner also informed that on April 29 they received information from the Ri-Bhoi district administration that two-three vehicles which included a State government vehicle had by passed the Umling check point and sped towards Shillong.
“However they were intercepted at Mawiong check point and sent back to the entry point for necessary testing,” Laloo said.
She also informed that the district administration has been getting complaints on a daily basis of people jumping quarantine, of people not waiting for the test results and venturing out.
“You are endangering everyone around. The virus is extremely transmissible. A single person alone can spread it to several others,” Laloo added.
