More than 50 Dorbar Shnongs in the Byrnihat area of Ri-Bhoi came out in favour of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) at a public meeting today.
The meeting was organised at Byrnihat Community Hall by four pressure groups – Khasi Students Union, Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation, Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People and Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front.
The headmen and traditional head of Raid Marwet unanimously decided to lend support for ILP in Meghalaya.
As elaborated by the leaders of the organizations, the main focus of the public meeting was to demand for the immediate implementation of ILP and also the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act to prevent illegal migration into Meghalaya.
