Four persons were arrested and 120.475 kilograms of illegal contraband was seized from them by Meghalaya police at Mawryngkneng.
Acting on a tip-off about suspected peddlers carrying a consignment of suspected contraband from Agartala, Tripura, the ANTF team and police from Mawryngkneng conducted a naka and were able to detain two vehicles whereby a search was conducted on Thursday at around 6:15 pm.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger informed today that during the search, 57 packets of marijuana each separately wrapped in brown tape were found concealed in different sections of the vehicle bearing Registration No AS 01 EK 2105 and 67 packets also wrapped in brown tape were found from vehicle bearing Registration No. AS 01 EL 8415.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajkumar Rai (29), Jahidul Islam (31), Hiralal Ray (30) and Lakshman Kumar Singh (43).
Nongtnger said that the illegal contraband consignment from Tripura was to be delivered to Guwahati. A case has been registered under various sections of the NDPS Act and police will ascertain more facts into the case, he added.
