The electricity scenario in the state is so grave that Meghalaya is on course for disaster if the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his brother and Power Minister James Sangma are not removed, leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma said today.
“I am concerned and I want everyone to be concerned. These issues can be solved only if you throw out the Chief Minister and Power Minister from their posts,” he said.
He said that the State is going to have a disastrous future and there is a lot of narrative being circulated in social media. “This is not just to point a finger at anybody for the sake of playing politics. This is a genuine reflection of the gravity of the situation. Unless it is corrected then the state will have a disastrous future,” he said.
Dr. Sangma said that the government is not interested to solve this mess and they are responsible for creating this mess.
“You must have seen recently officers are transferred overnight. The officers were asked to resign. These are tip of the iceberg. Who can remove the officer other than CM from the board of directors,” the opposition leader questioned.
Dr. Sangma said that he had spoken about power sector since 2006-2007.
The opposition leader said that the Electricity Act of 2003 is like a well documented script to revamp and revive the power sector and all the subsequent power policies are based on the mandate of the Act.
