The office of the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner organised a one-day programme on the Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission and Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao in collaboration with the Meghalaya Handloom Industries here today.
Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah was present, along with Hitha, a teenage Indo-American singer, and officials, weavers, fashion designers, school children and teachers.
The aim of the programme was to encourage women to be strong, confident and self-reliant while promoting khadi weavers and handloom crafts and encouraging families to educate their daughters.
Kurbah said that there are many ups and downs faced by women in their day to day life but they must know that they have to face the world with their own abilities.
Hitha expressed her immense pleasure to associate herself with the programme and appreciated the songs performed and the fashion show held. Hitha also showcased her talent by singing several songs and also interacted with school children.
