The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has written to Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui seeking the expeditious process of enhancement of their salaries.
In a memo submitted today, AGHSSASTA stated that the last enhance of salaries took place during the tenure of the previous Congress-led government in 2016. The salaries were increased to Rs 19,044 for lower primary teachers and Rs 20,492 for upper primary teachers.
“It has already been five years since the increment of salaries. However, due to skyrocketing fuel prices, the cost of essential commodities has shot up. We are unable to maintain ourselves and our families with the amount being provided by the state government,” said AGHSSASTA.
The teachers have sought the salaries to be raised to Rs 45,000 per month.
“Our current salaries cannot meet our family needs or the education needs of our children. The current salaries have been causing us tremendous economic hardships with the salaries themselves being irregular. We pray for the enhancement of our pay so that we can live in dignity,” added the teachers through the memo.
