The central government is under pressure from Assam to deny Meghalaya the Inner Line Permit, Meghalaya Congress Party Secretary Bajop Pyngrope claimed today.
“If they can give ILP overnight to Manipur then why not to Meghalaya? I think that (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah is getting full pressure from Assam not to give ILP to Meghalaya,” Pyngrope told Highland Post.
He also claimed that Assam cabinet minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sharma is controlling all the regional parties in the North East.
“If the regional parties are so serious on ILP for the state and have made the subject their main agenda in their manifesto then why have they not pulled out of the government if the government does not listen to them?” he said, adding that the regional parties have betrayed their own manifesto.
“The members in the government from the regional parties who have the taste of the chair and grasp of power are finding it very difficult to leave their post even at the cost of the Jaitbynriew and these people who have always fought the election on the issue concerning the Jaitbynriew will definitely feel the brunt in the coming election,” he stated.
