The East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and the Chairman of the District Water and Sanitation Mission, Swapnil Tembe, handed over the Kakwagre Water Supply Scheme, sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), to the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC) of Kakwagre village at a function organized by the Public Health Engineering Department today.
Kakwagre is the first village to receive water supply through this scheme in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, Tembe urged the villagers to ensure sustainability of water sources, protection of catchment areas and collection of water tariff for the operation and maintenance of the scheme.
The Executive Engineer and the Member Secretary of DWSM, Sujit P Marak, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the villagers and informed the gathering that, as per the guidelines of the JJM, water supply schemes are to be handed over to the respective VWSCs for ownership and operation and maintenance of the scheme.
