A one-day field-level financial literacy event by the Reserve Bank of India was held today in Mawkdok, East Khasi Hills, as part of Financial Literacy Week 2020, which also concluded today.
The theme was ‘credit discipline and credit from formal institutions’ whereby RBI Shillong General Manager P Gangte encouraged people to avail loans from recognized banks and financial institutions rather than private money lenders, the latter who charge extremely high rates of interest.
Other speakers encouraged the public to open bank accounts and accumulate a good credit rating while being wary of scams and fictitious offers.
The Meghalaya Rural Bank and Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank also deployed their mobile ATM vans at Mawkdok during the programme for the benefit of the participants.
