Karukol unit of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) in South Garo Hills has complained against what it alleged is the extremely poor construction of an upcoming road in the area.
The road in question is the one connecting National Highway 62 to the Karukol School.
The pressure group alleged that the work carried out by the contractor was not up to scratch and appears more to benefit the contractor rather than the people of the area.
GSU further demanded that the Public Works Department look into the said project and ensure it is carried out according to the original specifications.
“What is being done is not to anyone’s liking in the area as the road will not last. We need proper quality in the development of the road and the department should be strict on this. If the situation is not taken care of and better construction undertaken, we will launch agitations until the same is corrected,” informed the President of the GSU Karukol regional unit, A Z Matsram Marak, while asking that such contractors not be given work in the future.
