PHE Minister, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar today said that health cannot be traded with anything else and this applies to uranium mining.
“Come what may, we cannot allow uranium mining and we cannot trade it with health of our people,” Tongkhar said.
The Mawkyrwat MLA was criticised for his recent statement that uranium mining would bring about development. “Yes, uranium will bring about development, but that does not mean we will allow it and put health of the people in danger,” he said.
Tongkhar said that his party, the HSPDP has made its stand clear that that it would continue to oppose any move by the Centre to carry out uranium mining in Meghalaya. “We have it in our manifesto and we will continue to stand against any decision to mine uranium,” he added.
