The FKJGP – Garo Hills Zone, today thanked Health Minister, AL Hek for his efforts in retaining the seats of central pool MBBS seats for the academic session 2020-2021 which was due for cancellation due to the shortcoming of a certain college.
The State had been allocated with 50 central pool MBBS seats for the academic session – 2020-2021. However out of the 50 seats, two MBBS seats allocated to the state at Palamu Medical College, Jharkhand have been cancelled due to non-renewal of annual permission of the college by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the academic session 2020-2021 as was informed by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
“The two seats were allocated to candidates from the Garo category, namely Faustinus CJ Sangma and Cassava Marak, who were in a fix as these seats were not sanctioned anymore. However the minister vigorously pursued the matter with the Government of India consistently which wielded positive results as the Under Secretary to the Government of India has absorbed both the candidates in Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi,” said president of FKJGP, Garo Hills, Pritam Arengh.
The NGO added that the entire proceeding held special significance as the affected seats belonged to Garo candidates. With there being a huge clamour on the issue of job reservation policy over the issue of Garos being sidelined, Arengh felt the minister’s hard work was a shining example of impartiality and exemplary leadership.
