There is no truth to the allegations of a high level of radiation leakage at the uranium exploratory drilling site in Nongbah-Jynrin, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said today.
“We have the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police, who are the arms of the state government, and even Government of India agencies are also there,” Sangma told reporters after a cabinet meeting here today.
The Chief Minister, however, added that if there are any serious concerns then the state government is ready to look into the matter again.
“But our agencies clearly indicated that there is no radiation,” Sangma said.
Last Friday environmental economist Bremley WB Lyngdoh claimed to have discovered high levels of radiation at the site using a Geiger counter.
This followed what the Khasi Students Union claimed was an explosion at the site around two weeks prior. However, after the original ‘incident’, the district administration said that there had been no such explosion.
