A concerned citizen in Ri-Bhoi has lodged a complaint with the district’s Deputy Commissioner raising concerns over the safety of a bridge at Dwar Ksuid in Umroi along the Shillong bypass.
Kronding Nongbsap, of Syllei-U-Lar village, has urged for a spot inquiry to ascertain whether the bridge is safe enough for vehicular traffic, including that of heavy goods vehicles.
The surface of the bridge has become uneven and there appear to be cracks on the supports under the bridge, which, Nongbsap fears, could lead to a collapse. He said bridge takes the weight of about 30-35 coal loaded trucks and other heavy trucks and with the substandard construction it would be dangerous for vehicles to ply.
Nongbsap also said that no signage has been erected to show how much weight a vehicle can ply through the bridge.
