Acting on a tip-off, Ri-Bhoi police arrested two individuals suspected to be drugs smugglers as they were travelling from Guwahati to Agartala at Umroi after midnight yesterday.
Twelve packets of methamphetamines (yaba tablets) were seized, valued at between Rs 70-80 lakh.
Based on intelligence, the police laid a trap at the Dwar Ksuid Bridge on the Shillong Bypass at around 1:30am and stopped a truck (NL 01 AC 9346), which was driven by one Bikram Dutta in the company of Bikash Sarkar.
Two well-packed bundles were found in the truck, containing 12 packets of methamphetamines.
Both occupants of the truck, who hail from West Tripura, were arrested.
