Expressing the party’s intention not to give up the fight against the various cases of corruption in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), party spokesperson Bernard Marak has said that there is no difference between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on the matter.
“We stand united against corruption. There is no difference. The allegation made by some pseudo-BJP members against the BJP [state] President Ernest Mawrie are false and baseless, solely intended to malign the President’s image because he is fighting against corruption,” said Marak in a release today.
There have been reports that some party leaders are upset with the BJP’s interest in corruption in the district councils as it is rubbing their allies in the state government the wrong way.
Marak said that Garo Hills had been devastated through corruption and it was time to stop it.
“The state government should stop acting like they don’t know about corruption in GHADC. Instead they should allow a CBI inquiry into the misuse of funds in GHADC. It’s the demand not only of BJP but the entire Garo Hills,” he said.
With elections to the GHADC coming soon, Marak said that Garo Hills would vote for a CBI inquiry and to end corruption, which he said could be proven if elections are held in time.
“People of Garo Hills are tired of corruption and misuse of funds, which has gone beyond the limit. There should be a CBI inquiry and elections should be held in time. That would be the justification the government can give to Garo Hills,” he added.
