The Director of Information and Public Relations has filed an FIR with cyber crime police against unnamed individuals who propagated fake news through WhatApp yesterday with regards to a supposed lockdown in Shillong today and tomorrow.
The story has its origins in July when the state capital underwent a two-day lockdown following a spike in Covid-19 cases. This prompted Doordarshan Shillong to issue a notice on their social media handles and this post has since been misused at least twice to try and fool the public into thinking that there will be another lockdown.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Director of DD Shillong also informed that an FIR has been filed by the broadcaster at Madanrting Police Station.
