West Garo Hills police rescued a teenager who was kidnapped by a gang of criminals this morning after information on her kidnapping was relayed to the district police by Assam authorities.
According to information received, a 16-year-old girl was kidnapped by a six-member gang on Saturday. The victim is a resident of Ujonbatra in Assam. Two of the gang members are allegedly residents of Meghalaya, with four more from Assam making up the numbers.
The two criminals from Meghalaya have been identified as Mojidur Rehman and Sher Ali of the village of Nalbari under Phulbari Police Station.
Information of the kidnapping was provided by police authorities in Sukchor, Assam after the gang’s hideout was narrowed down to Sakmal, under Rajabala outpost, which falls between Hallidayganj and Rajabala.
As per reports, information of the presence of the criminals in Sakmal was provided by Assam police at 9am this morning, with the victim rescued and one of the gang members arrested within a span of around two hours.
Upon receiving information from the Assam police, the officer in charge at Rajabala, along with other policemen, rushed into a search and rescue mode.
“Seeing the approaching policemen, the abductors abandoned their victim but a wild chase ensued to nab the culprits. The determination of the police team led to the arrest of one member of the gang along with two accomplices. They were arrested and formally handed over to Assam police for further investigation,” said Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar.
The teen was later reunited with her family after the completion of formalities.
