East Jaintia headmen want shifting of Covid-19 patient to NEIGRIHMS

Khliehriat, Jul 2: The Synjuk ki Wahehshnong East Jaintia Hills District (SWSEJHD) have placed a demand before the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district to ensure that the Covid-19 patient identified recently is immediately shifted to NEIGRIHMS in Shillong.
Expressing concern over the fact that the patient who is also the branch manager of the State Bank of India (SBI) Khliehriat branch, is still in the isolation centre in the district, the traditional headmen today said that this poses a threat of Covid-19 spreading among the population.
“If he is shifted to NEIGRIHMS or any other designated COVID-19 hospital, he will also get the proper treatment,” the SWSEJHD said.
Meanwhile, the Waheh Shnongs also expressed concern while opining that it is very easy for people to enter the district in spite of the fact that check points have been set up to screen people entering the district.
“We doubt the work culture at the check point which is at Byrnihat and Ratacherra and we strongly suspect that there are people from outside the State who are entering Meghalaya without the proper documents,” SWSEJHD president, Satly Ryngkhlem said today.
They also alleged that ‘high profile’ people are not checked properly at these entry points and are allowed free entry into Meghalaya while adding that this poses a major threat to the residents of the State with the rise of Covid-19 cases in neighbouring Assam.
As such, the Synjuk has urged those manning these check gates to discharge of their duties in right earnest.
Meanwhile, Ryngkhlem said that henceforth, anybody entering East Jaintia Hills district will have to inform the village authorities. “If there is a Covid-19 case and we are not informed about the entry of these people, it is the village authority and the local residents who face the bulk of the problems,” he said.
The Synjuk has also appealed to the residents of the district not to panic while adding that they have to ensure that they follow the guidelines and advisories issued by the government on the containment and prevention of the spread of Covid-19.
