Shillong, Nov 5: Six students with disabilities from Meghalaya were among 77 scholars from five Northeastern states felicitated under the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme for the 2026-27 academic session.
The ceremony, held in Guwahati on October 29, marked a decade of the flagship CSR initiative by Indus Towers Limited and its implementation partner Shishu Sarothi.
This year’s cohort comprises 47 students from Assam, 11 from Nagaland, 8 from Mizoram, 6 from Meghalaya and 5 from Tripura, pursuing Certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
Assam Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Ashwini Ray Sarkar attended as chief guest and commended the scholars’ resilience.
The program addresses a critical gap in higher education, where students with disabilities account for just 0.2 per cent of national enrollments, as per AISHE 2021-22.
Since its inception in 2016, the Indus Towers Scholarship Programme under its CSR umbrella ‘Saksham’ has empowered over 900 students with disabilities across Northeast. Nationwide, 200 students are being supported this academic session.
Circle CEO – NESA, Indus Towers, Rajender Gurung said the ten-year partnership with Shishu Sarothi is a proud example of the company’s commitment to inclusive empowerment through education and opportunity.
