Shillong, Nov 5: The post of Meghalaya’s Chief Information Commissioner, vacant since August, was filled on Thursday with retired IAS officer Ripnar Lyngdoh taking oath of office.
Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar administered the oath at a ceremony at Lok Bhavan.
The post had fallen vacant following the demise of former Chief Information Commissioner Rebecca V. Suchiang in August this year.
Lyngdoh will hold office for a term of two years from the date of assuming charge, or until she attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier, as per the official notification.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P Ahammed, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department Secretary Isawanda Laloo and other officials.
With her appointment, the State Information Commission is now set to resume full functioning, including hearing appeals and complaints under the Right to Information Act.
