Shillong, Oct 23: Not a single student from Meghalaya has made it to the 48-member provisional admission list for B.Sc Nursing 2026-27 at NEIGRIHMS, notified on September 7.
The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) on Friday submitted a representation to the NEIGRIHMS Director seeking a dedicated state quota for Meghalaya students.
HYC said while it respects merit and the institute’s national character, the premier central institute located in Shillong must give a fair opportunity to local aspirants.
It demanded a seat allocation model on the lines of RIMS, Imphal and the existing Meghalaya reservation for MBBS at NEIGRIHMS.
The HYC has urged that the issue be placed before the Governing Council on October 27 and admission rules amended accordingly, warning that without a quota, deserving local students will continue to be left out of professional nursing education in their own state.
