Shillong, Oct 21: The city witnessed three petrol bomb attacks last night at Kench’s Trace, Keating Road and Laitumkhrah, police said today.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said there was no damage or injury in any of the incidents.
“These petrol bomb hurling incidents happened yesterday at three places, one at Kench’s Trace, one at Keating Road and one at Laitumkhrah, but there was no damage or injury,” Syiem said.
Police have tightened security across the city.
“We have taken preventive measures and set up checking points everywhere to prevent miscreants from hurling petrol bombs or causing harm to anyone. We will intensify patrolling, intensify checking, intensify all police work,” he said.
Cases have been registered and investigation is on to identify the culprits, Syiem said, adding no arrests have been made so far.
Police have collected CCTV footage and identification of persons involved is underway.
Asked if any group has claimed responsibility, Syiem said, “As of now no one has claimed responsibility for these incidents but we will look into all these things. But we will examine all these incidents in detail, and I think all will show what happened. However, the motive during Puja remains a question.”
He said 4 to 5 such incidents have occurred during the Puja period. “So far there have been about 4 to 5 such incidents. Till now, no one has claimed, but we cannot point to any group,” he said.
