Editor,
The recent news article of your esteemed daily photography exhibition themed: ‘Discover Jaintia: Nature’s own land, which was held at Thlumuwi on the Jawai- Dawki road near Amlarem has drawn our attention.
The enthusiastic participation of students from nearby educational institutions and tourists from West Bengal and other parts of the country in the much-desired exhibition deserved appreciation.
The exhibition which showcased Jaintia Hills unexplored mountains, eye-catching waterfalls and natural landscapes of the area, makes one to feel that Jaintia Hills is not flashy, but that is its charm which will make one fall in love with Meghalaya again and again.
Now one feels that there is a need for the Jaintia Tourism and Environment Society(JTES) to take necessary steps in collaboration with the state government to organise similar exhibitions in other states outside Meghalaya especially before the start of the tourist season. It will immensely help to attract tourists to the state and include Jaintia Hills into their bucket list.
Only then the aim to put Jaintia Hills hidden gems on the world map will be fulfilled. At the same time,we must not forget about the fact that responsible and sustainable tourism of any place depends on respecting local cultures, protecting the environment and supporting host communities.
Public input is one of the most valuable components of a tourism development plan for economic resilience and community pride.
