Editor,
Movies have always remained a powerful tool for shaping the mood, perception and behavior of individuals as well as the society. For promoting new genres of music, fashion or hairstyles, movies are indispensable. Those who were born three decades ago can still remember how the long haircut of the actor Rahul Roy became a craze for the youths after the release of the film “Ashique”. Tight jeans became a popular choice after ” Kumar gaurav” wore them in the movie ” Love story”. People have learned to build six pack abs watching the film stars in the cinema . From shoes to trousers , and from hair bands to caps, the public copy whatever their favourite cine stars wear in the films. A whole lot of industries survive from the movies. Movies acted as a mode of direct promotion when the advertisement industry was not fully developed. Movies are believed to have a direct impact on how people think and behave, and this is the fact which has made movies a matter of worry today. Since what movies show transit into the individuals behavior and society to a great extent. People like to do whatever they see in the movies. Today, contemporary films are quite different from those featured in the cinema halls 30 years ago. The hero is no longer a character that decimates the villain at the end. On the contrary, he is one like the villain in nature and doings. He violates the laws, cheats his wife and keeps illegal weapons. Some of the films have revealed how a bad tempered person can be projected as a hero . contemporary films not only display excessive violence, but have also changed the characters playing the negative role . Today the hero too can be a bad person, and still be admired by the public. From time to time films have undergone changes in terms of the story, music and concept. But some of the modern movies have revealed that there is a constant effort to alter the concept of hero, love or seeking justice, in the name of creating something different.
Today the use of vulgar scenes and foul vocabulary have increased to such an extent in the films that it has become impossible to watch them with the family. The most worrying thing is the growing acceptance of such films among the public. People now support the negative roles played by the heroes, excessive violence and nude scenes in the movies , without thinking about its ill effect on the society and young generation. When a film becomes a blockbuster after featuring the boot licking scene by a woman , then we should ask ourselves how we actually want to see the dignity of women on the screens. Today the time has come for rejecting films which promote violence and misogyny , if we want to save our social and moral values. The censorship should come from our moral conscience.
