Shillong, Oct 18: A resident of Laitkor Kynton U Mon has submitted a formal complaint to the electoral authorities after allegedly being wrongly classified as deceased during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Electoral Officer, Ridalin Laloo claimed that despite being very much still alive and residing in the locality, her individual voter record was incorrectly mapped to a deceased person.
The complainant expressed concern that the error could lead to the deletion of an existing voter registration and Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC).
According to the complaint, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) reportedly advised the voter to register afresh for a new EPIC. However, the resident argued that electoral records should first be verified and corrected before any fresh registration is initiated.
The complainant has requested the intervention of the electoral authorities to conduct a proper verification of identity and voter registration records, correct the alleged erroneous classification and safeguard the existing voter identity and EPIC.
The resident also urged officials not to initiate any deletion of the voter record without following due process and providing an opportunity to present supporting documents. The complainant expressed a willingness to cooperate with authorities and furnish all necessary records for verification.
