Shillong, Oct 12: Deficit school teachers and employees under the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers’ Association and the Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers Association will go on a three-day mass casual leave from October 13 to 15, citing govt failure to fulfil pending demands.
The associations said no satisfactory reply was received to their September 25 memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
KJDSTA President Boswell S Pala on Monday said a letter received on October 8 from Joint Secretary, Education, D. Lyngdoh did not address their demands including revocation of Scheme 2026 and restoration of the Board of Trustees.
The letter from the Education Department talked about the introduction of PRAN, which according to the union is part of implementation of the Scheme. Regarding the Board of Trustees, the letter said deficit teachers and staff have been included in the Board set up on April 27, 2026, but this has not been accepted by the associations.
The associations also alleged that several demands were met with complete silence.
The associations urged the government to consider their legitimate demands and appealed to teachers to cooperate and parents, students to bear with them.
