Shillong, Oct 12: The Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has alleged lack of transparency in MUDA’s operation of public toilets and parking lots.
In a letter to MUDA Chairman/Secretary, working president Thomas Passah said RTI revealed that the notice inviting tender for three public toilets at Pahsyntiew Shopping Complex, Khlieh Ïewduh and Khyndai Bah Ryntieh (Police Bazar) was floated almost a year ago but bids were never opened. The toilets are being run by non-MUDA individuals charging more than prescribed rates, he alleged.
On parking, KHNAM questioned allotment of Garikhana parking to one Heevalina Kharraswai, citing Clause 4 that highest bidder may not be selected, which it said allows nepotism.
The party also said two parking lots at Khlieh Ïewduh and Khyndailad are being run departmentally on grounds of renovation.
It demanded open tendering to highest bidders, job opportunities for local youth and display of approved rates to prevent overcharging.
