Shillong, Oct 9: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today flagged key challenges in implementing NEP 2020 in Meghalaya, stressing the need for collaborative solutions.
Addressing a state seminar on “Implementation of NEP 2020: Issues, Challenges and Way Forward” organised by DERT, Rymbui listed resource-sharing among schools, language barriers, teacher shortage, lack of professional development, dependence on private coaching and tech integration as major hurdles.
He said the three-language policy is a challenge given Meghalaya’s linguistic diversity and shortage of teachers across mediums. He called for regular teacher training that translates into classroom improvement, and for clear guidance on digital tools.
Classrooms must be more engaging and student-centred, focusing on skills and practical learning beyond academics, he added.
Education Commissioner & Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri highlighted progress in foundational education, formative assessment, experiential and competency-based learning, saying effective implementation remains a priority.
The seminar provided a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on implementation challenges and explore practical ways to advance inclusive and quality education in Meghalaya.
