Shillong, Oct 8: There is absolutely no rift within the elected members of the National People’s Party (NPP), the party’s state president Prestone Tynsong said today, as he brushed aside the rumours regarding internal unity.
Recently Pynthorumkhrah MLA and senior figure in the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Alexander Laloo Hek, said that several NPP legislators are keen to change horses and have sent feelers and held talks in this regard.
Tynsong poured scorn on the idea and dismissed Hek as “only an MLA” who does not speak for the BJP.
Tynsong, who is Deputy Chief Minister in the Meghalaya government, said the NPP’s 33 elected MLAs remain united and that he has seen no signs of a rift within the party.
“I don’t believe in comments, I believe in reality. Please, when you ask me a question, ask the reality. Don’t depend on social media, that is not at all the gospel truth,” Tynsong told reporters. “I don’t think Bah Hek is the state president of NPP. I am the state president of the NPP. I think I know better than anybody else.”
He said he would respond to such a claim if it came from the BJP’s state president.
“I will not comment much about the statement made by AL Hek. Maybe if the state president of the BJP says something, then maybe I can comment but Bah Hek, he is only the MLA,” Tynsong said.
