Shillong, Oct 4: A man in West Khasi Hills was sentenced to life imprisonment for a double murder perpetrated five years ago.
The case goes back to August 2021 when a 79-year-old woman and the 25-year-old housemaid were found dead in the former’s house in Nongstoin. The home had been locked from outside. The bodies were discovered by the elderly victim’s son, who had to break open the lock to gain access to the house.
Following investigation, a suspect, Banphrangkupar Nongbri, was arrested and charged with the double homicide.
The case concluded on September 30 this year, with the District and Session Judge of West Khasi Hills finding Nongbri guilty and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life with no chance of parole. He was also fined Rs 2 lakh.
