Shillong, Sep 29: The Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), East Khasi Hills, has urged the Deputy Commissioner to disallow construction of puja pandals on main roads in Shillong.
In a letter to the DC today, HNYF President Steveson Raymond Khryiem said pandals on main roads cause heavy traffic congestion every year.
The organisation flagged roads from R.R. Colony Rynjah, Laban, Polo, Rilbong and Garikhana to Umshyrpi, where vehicle movement is blocked once pandals are set up, turning one of the busiest stretches into a celebration area.
This causes chaos for traffic flow and pedestrians, the letter said.
HNYF stated it has no objection to puja celebrations but will not tolerate pandals on public roads.
