Shillong, Sep 29: A special POCSO Court in Shillong has sentenced a man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy.
The convict, Pyntngenlang Nongsiej, was sentenced by Special Judge (POCSO) R. Rymbai on September 16 in connection with the 2020 case.
Police said an FIR was received at Lumdiengjri PS on March 16, 2020 that Nongsiej had assaulted the complainant’s 7-year-old son.
A case under sections 4/8 POCSO Act was registered and the accused was arrested. Charge sheet was filed on January 28, 2022.
The court awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment with Rs 10,000 fine under Section 6 of POCSO Act, and six months additional RI in default of payment.
The convict has already undergone 9 months and 4 days in custody and will serve the remaining term in jail.
