Shillong, Sep 23: The Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) at Umsning-Parila in Ri-Bhoi is functioning without a formal inauguration and is facing shortage of equipment and manpower, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has alleged.
A team of FKJGP North Khasi Hills led by secretary Ricky Majaw and information secretary Banroi Wahlang along with Umsning Circle members inspected the hospital and interacted with doctors and staff.
The team found a shortage of diagnostic and surgical instruments, lack of facilities in the observation room, and absence of X-ray services and blood storage facilities.
Majaw said though services have begun, the hospital is yet to be formally opened to the public.
He urged the state government to expedite deployment of staff and provide all necessary equipment and funds to make the hospital fully functional, stating that a fully operational MCH hospital would greatly benefit mothers and children across Ri-Bhoi.
