Shillong, Sep 20: The Shillong unit of the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Foundation organised an awards ceremony on September 19 to commemorate the 11th death anniversary of the former President of India and renowned scientist, who died in Shillong in July 2015.
On the occasion, Alok Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, was honoured with the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Award for his contributions to literature and education.
Singh has been actively associated with various literary and cultural platforms and has contributed as a speaker and resource person on diverse subjects, including the Hindi language, Indian literature, national integration, youth consciousness and the cultural heritage of North East India.
Singh recalled the inspiring thoughts and vision of Kalam and emphasised the importance of promoting education, literature, knowledge and creative thinking among the younger generation.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the life, achievements, scientific vision and nation-building ideals of Kalam, as well as his enduring message of inspiration for the youth. Speakers remembered Dr. Kalam as an inspiring symbol of knowledge, education, scientific temper, cultural consciousness, and dedication to the nation.
