Shillong, Sep 17: A 14-member media delegation comprising senior journalists from Uttar Pradesh, visiting Meghalaya as part of a media outreach initiative by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) today called on Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar at the Lok Bhavan here.
During the interaction, the Governor highlighted Meghalaya’s distinctive social institutions, including the strong tradition of community participation in governance and the state’s matrilineal social system. He noted how these practices have shaped community life and social relationships.
The Governor emphasised the importance of preserving Meghalaya’s unique identity while pursuing development responsive to local community needs. He underscored the value of greater interaction and understanding between different regions of the country.
The journalists interacted with the Governor on Meghalaya’s history, development and social institutions, gaining first-hand insights into the state and its distinctive way of life.
The delegation is on a two-day visit to Meghalaya to gain first-hand exposure to the state’s tourism, developmental initiatives and other areas of public interest. The journalists will share their experiences with audiences in Uttar Pradesh through their respective media platforms.
