Shillong, Aug 26: The proposed Doppler Weather Radar for East Khasi Hills aimed at improving forecasting and early warning across the Khasi-Jaintia region has hit a roadblock over land ownership.
Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal chaired a meeting with IMD officials recently which was also attended by District Disaster Management Authority CEO Shanborlang Warjri.
Though a suitable site has been identified, ownership complications have emerged.
The administration has directed IMD to identify an alternative site while the Revenue Branch has been asked to explore acquisition of the originally identified land despite legal complications.
The radar is expected to boost forecast accuracy, strengthen early warning for weather hazards and aid disaster preparedness in Meghalaya where heavy rain disrupts transport and damages infrastructure during monsoon.
