Shillong, Aug 4: The Draft Electoral Roll, 2026 for Meghalaya will be published tomorrow under the Special Intensive Revision, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer announced.
The CEO held two review meetings to assess preparedness. In a virtual meeting with DCs, SDOs, EROs and AEROs, he directed officials to ensure all activities related to the publication and the subsequent claims and objections period are carried out as per ECI guidelines.
In a separate meeting with representatives of recognised national and state political parties, the CEO said each party will be given one hard copy with photographs and one soft copy without photographs for scrutiny. One hard copy without photographs will also be shared with traditional heads, village dorbars, nokmas and local bodies for public inspection.
Lists of electors in the Absent, Shifted, Deceased and Duplicate categories will be hosted on the CEO Meghalaya and District Election Office websites. Booth-wise lists of those who did not submit Enumeration Forms will be displayed at BDO offices and polling stations.
EROs will issue notices to electors whose records could not be linked with the previous roll or where discrepancies were found. Electors who missed the house-to-house phase can apply for inclusion using Form 6 with a Declaration Form during the Claims and Objections period from August 5 to September 4, 2026. Advance applications in Form 6 for the qualifying date of October 1, 2026 will also be accepted.
The CEO said EROs and AEROs must pass reasoned orders on all claims. Cases involving suspected foreign nationals will be referred under the Citizenship Act, 1955.
The ECI has approved 86 new polling stations, taking the state’s total from 3,551 to 3,637 to improve voter access.
The CEO urged political parties, traditional institutions, civil society and the public to participate in the claims and objections period to ensure an accurate and inclusive electoral roll.
