Shillong, Jul 25: Former judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Dr. Mukundakam Sharma said that Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) has become an indispensable component of modern jurisprudence, offering faster, cost-effective and amicable settlement of disputes.
Delivering a special talk at the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on Saturday, Sharma elaborated on the growing significance of mediation, arbitration and conciliation in reducing the burden on courts and ensuring timely justice.
He also encouraged law students and young legal professionals to develop expertise in ADR mechanisms, describing them as the future of effective dispute resolution in India.
The special talk on ‘Alternative Dispute Resolution System: Contemporary Relevance and Emerging Dimensions’ was organised by the USTM through its University School of Law and Research (USLR) which was attended by academicians, legal experts, faculty members, advocates, research scholars and students.
The former Supreme Court judge also interacted with students and faculty members on various contemporary legal issues and the future of ADR in the Indian legal system.
