Shillong, Jul 20: A new waterfall at Amtharonh Pdeng Thangchap, Amlarem Sub-Division, West Jaintia Hills, has been named “Sniawbhalang Dhar Waterfalls” after Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Dhar laid the foundation stone for the waterfall on Sunday. The site was donated by the Raid Buam in appreciation of the minister’s support in resolving issues related to Krangshuri, a popular tourist spot now officially handed over to the Raid for management, and for his contributions to local welfare.
The Raid Buam also felicitated the Deputy CM during the event.
As part of the program, Dhar laid the foundation for afforestation of the Raid Buam forest with 20 lakh saplings under the Regeneration Meghalaya Project, in collaboration with Earthtree Environment Pvt. Ltd.
Speaking at the function, Dhar said he would visit the area soon to push tourism development schemes. He highlighted that the government has promoted 5,000 home stays across the state, along with hotels, to boost tourism, adding that Meghalaya is now gaining wider recognition.
Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, Amlarem SDO Vevotolu Kezo, former MLA Stephanson Mukhim, Dollois, Raid Buam office bearers and residents of Umladkhur were present on the occasion.
