Shillong, Jul 10: The fourth edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival commenced at Dilli Haat, New Delhi, today, showcasing Meghalaya’s world-renowned pineapples and promoting the state’s agricultural products to national and international markets.
The festival was inaugurated by Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, in the presence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar, farmers and senior government officials.
Addressing the gathering, Scindia described Meghalaya’s pineapple as “the sweetest pineapple in the country” and highlighted the state’s reputation for producing high-quality crops such as Lakadong turmeric, ginger and black pepper.
Sangma said the festival is more than just a celebration of the state’s famous fruit but is also a platform to provide farmers with greater market access and connect them with buyers, businesses and consumers from across India and abroad.
