Mawkyrwat, May 29: An awareness programme to enlighten local manufacturers and aspiring entrepreneurs about the benefits of acquiring BIS certification was held in Mawkyrwat today.
Titled, ‘MSME for BIS Certification,’ the programme was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Guwahati branch office, in collaboration with the District Commerce and Industry Centre (DCIC) of South West Khasi Hills District.
The programme aimed to create awareness among non-BIS licensed manufacturers, small-scale industries, MSMEs, and aspiring entrepreneurs on the importance of standardisation, quality certification, the ISI Mark, and BIS conformity assessment schemes for goods and services, with a focus on quality, safety, and consumer protection.
The resource persons for the programme included Abhinash Bordoloi, Scientist and Joint Director, BIS Guwahati, who spoke on the topics of Grant of License and Management Systems and Jishnu Das of BIS also delivered a presentation on the various BIS licenses available for MSMEs and the procedures for application.
The interactive session that followed the presentations allowed participants to clarify their doubts related to the BIS certification process wherein participants raised queries and gained further clarity on BIS certification procedures and benefits.
DCIC General Manager M. War and Dr. Rinku Das, founder and Director of Northeast Livelihood Promotion Services took part in the programme.
