Shillong, May 28: The United Democratic Party’s (UDP’s) Shillong City District unit feels ignored in the process to choose the party’s Shillong Lok Sabha by-election candidate.
In a letter dated May 25, Shillong City District secretary Tirot Sing Suchiang flagged the MP candidate selection process, saying it was done “without proper consultation with the party’s workers,” especially Shillong City District, which it claimed is “the base of the candidate,” the lawyer VGK Kynta.
The resolution was passed at a meeting held at the party office on May 25.
The district unit also accused UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh of ignoring queries it had put to him in January. “Over the past few months we have reached out to your office several occasions… it is disheartening to be ignored when seeking basic information,” the letter read. “This issue not only affects Shillong city but the whole party as well.”
