Shillong, May 28: A minor girl escaped from the clutches of her kidnappers in Ri Bhoi district on Wednesday.
Police said after a 43-year-old man forcibly took the child onto a motorcycle and drove to a secluded place where three unknown persons with two motorcycles were already waiting.
The group allegedly discussed plans of putting the child in a sack for sale. According to police, the child overheard their conversation and managed to escape and ran away screaming for help.
Nearby workers, who were laying pipes towards the village, rescued her and safely handed her over to the Rangbah Shnong, who reported the incident to the Nongpoh Women Police station.
Police said a case has been registered and the main accused has been arrested as efforts are on to identify all other suspects.
