Shillong, May 23: A three-day skill upgradation training programme on pig farming was organised recently by ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ri-Bhoi under the NICRA-TDC programme, aimed to enhance the scientific knowledge and entrepreneurial skills of local farmers and youth interested in pig farming.
A total of 15 farmers and rural youths from the Umling block participated in the training programme. The sessions covered vital aspects of scientific pig farming, including improved breeding practices, housing management, feeding and nutrition, disease prevention, vaccination protocols, and biosecurity measures. Additionally, the training emphasised waste management and marketing opportunities within piggery farming.
The programme incorporated practical demonstrations and interactive sessions, allowing participants to gain hands-on experience.
Scientists and subject matter specialists facilitated these sessions, highlighting the importance of adopting improved and climate-resilient farming practices.
