Nongpoh, Apr 30: The Ri-Bhoi district administration and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Bongaigaon have signed a memorandum of agreement to work towards improving education in the region.
This collaboration aims to set up Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) laboratories in 27 government schools across the district.
The project, sanctioned under NTPC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, has a total budget of Rs. 148.50 lakh. The goal is to enhance students’ learning experiences in STEM subjects, particularly at the secondary and higher secondary levels.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal and representatives from NTPC Bongaigaon, including Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, Madhurjya Singha Lahkar, DGM (HR), and Smriti Das, Executive (CSR).
Baranwal expressed gratitude to NTPC for their cooperation and responsiveness to the district administration’s request. Initially, the aim was to establish 55 STEM labs, but the first phase will focus on 27 government schools, he said.
The selected institutions were chosen based on their infrastructure and student enrollment, adhering to NTPC’s requirement for government or government-aided schools, the Deputy Commissioner said.
This initiative is expected to be completed within six months and aims to inspire greater interest in the STEM fields among students, addressing the challenges they face in science and mathematics. It promises to not only enhance practical learning but also foster critical thinking skills, significantly strengthening students’ academic foundations for the future.
